4 Things To Know Before You Buy A Hot Tub.
So you’re thinking about getting a hot tub. Congratulations! There are so many excellent benefits including therapy, relaxation and connection time with friends and family. Buying a hot tub is a big decision; here are four things you should consider before taking the plunge!
Do you have a place to put your hot tub? Location is everything! You will want to make sure you have enough space, a sturdy surface and access to electrical.
A hot tub is a big part of your backyard. It can be a focal point or an eye sore based on location. It’s a good idea to bring in a rough sketch of your backyard to your local hot tub dealer. You can review the layout together and find the best hot tub to fit into your space. If you are still feeling unsure you can also ask your local hot tub expert to schedule a site evaluation. Many hot tub dealers will come out to your house free of charge!
In addition, you will need a sturdy foundation for your hot tub to set on. Most hot tubs need to be placed on a reinforced cement pad (at least 4” deep) or wood deck capable of supporting 100 lbs per square foot. Not doing so may result in a cracked hot tub and may void your warranty. Be sure to check your local codes and after installation, watch for any settling or erosion that could move your hot tub out of level.
How will you power the hot tub? Many hot tubs are “plug and play” meaning, they require a standard 110/120 volt line. However, most hot tubs require a 220/240 volt line. If you don’t already have this installed, you will need the services of a qualified electrician to wire for the hot tub. Many hot tub dealers can recommend a local electrician.
Other than those few considerations, your hot tub is a self-contained unit…no plumbing necessary!
How many people do you want to put in the hot tub? Notice, we didn’t say how many are in your household or family. We literally mean, how many people do you WANT in your hot tub at any given time? For some they may want it for personal therapy or relaxation and therefore don’t need a big hot tub. While others may want the entire neighborhood! Marquis® offers a variety of sizes to fit everyone’s needs. We have tubs ranging from two seats in the Rendezvous to seven in aEuphoria. If you want to go bigger, Marquis® now offers a new swim spa, the Aquatic Training Vessel™!
Do you have any serious therapy needs? Perhaps a chronic illness or a past injury you are looking to heal? Hot tubs are a therapeutic haven. Hot water therapy is known to soothe aching joints, relax tight muscles and help you sleep better. Many doctors are now recommending a daily soak in a hot tub to treat a variety of injuries and chronic illnesses. We have several examples of Marquis® hot tub owners who have seen real health results from using their hot tub. They have been able to reduce sleeping pills, minimize visits to chiropractors and avoid surgeries. A hot tub may be just what you need. For some of us the most important thing to consider is cost. How much does the hot tub cost and how much will it cost to operate and maintain? With hot tubs there is a large range in pricing depending on size, number of jets and the accessories you might like to add. You can expect to spend anywhere from a few thousand up to twenty. There is, of course, an option for every family. Be sure to ask your hot tub dealer about financing options, energy efficiency ratings and how much it will cost to run each month including electricity and chemicals.
Now the fun begins and you are ready to go shopping for your new hot tub! You know where you want to put the hot tub, what size you’re looking for, what you want to use the hot tub for and how much you want to spend . There are many different options available and it is always best to test soak any tub before buying it! Sitting in a hot tub full of water feels very different from the same hot tub when it’s dry.
